Template Changes |
Well, I've got that feeling of spring in my bones and it's definitely time for some blog spring cleaning. Plus, I really wanted to try my hand at making my own title bar like dooce does (she changes hers every month!). As you can probably tell, I don't know how to use photoshop (or the reasonable facsimile thereof that I have on my computer), but I kind of like this for a first attempt. Now I just have to figure out how to get it all the way across the screen.
As far as life in general goes, it's been hard, since CB left, to get back into the swing of things. I threw myself back into work with abandon so as not to sit around moping and I've done fairly well so far. Mainly because in reality I'm really really happy. Happy. Amazing, isn't it? |

It looks like all your links are far down on the page, too. I had the same problems when I tried to redo "Human Mishaps." I wasn't experienced enough with HTML to know all the little tricks.
Dooce pretty much makes a living from her blog so she probably spends a lot of time (and money?) to do stuff plus I think her husband helps her.

Ok, I'm confused. I see a side bar on the right, it's white. Is it not there when you look at it?

Getting the image to appear to stretch across the entire screen is actually an HTML/CSS thing -- dooce's title bar was actually created using three centered images (top, left, and right) with a background for the divider containing the latter two. Depending upon exactly how it changes each month (are the birds and text font a constant, or are those elements modified as well?), I suspect she's using layers in her graphics program to create the images themselves.
I see the sidebar, but your links to other sites appear to have been erased! Well, except for Google News and our good friends the Edit-Me twins. :)

The whole title image changes every month. She has an archive of them if you are curious.
Do you think I can figure this out on my own Wes?
As for the links, I forgot to save the old template so I have to start all over. I'm going to try to fix stuff tonight after work.

I like the new look of the title, nice job! If there's anyway to bring up the side stuff parallel to the posts, I agree it would be better. I'm not good with such things, so I commend you for making the personal touch to your blog :)
More importantly... glad to hear you are happy!

Wes is commenting on pages other than TAB's? You do have the magic touch;) How do you change your title bar?

Becky, the better question to ask, I think, is how did I change my title bar? I went into my template and then looked for a url that looked like the title bar. I then put in the new location of my image (which I saved to a date in the past on my blog, since I don't have anywhere else to keep things online). If it didn't work I cleared the edit and put it someplace else. I kept changing things one at a time until I figured out if what I was changing was what I wanted to change.
It was kind of exhausting and inefficient, but the best I could come up with. :O)
